Herbicides (weedkillers)
Product : Proliance Quattro (Systemic Weedkiller – Non residual)
‘Proliance Quattro’ is an advanced Glyphosate formulation which incorporates a fully optimised surfactant system and water conditioner. Having no hazard classification, it offers a high standard of operator and environmental safety when used as directed. ‘Proliance Quattro’ applied to foliage is translocated through the plant, controlling all parts including roots, rhizomes and stolons. After treatment discolouration of the leaves is seen first on grass weeds but takes longer to appear on broad-leaved weeds. The time for complete kill of weeds depends on species and growing conditions, and may vary from a few days to a few weeks. Can be used to control noxious weeds such as Japanese Knotweed
Proliance Quattro contains surfactants that act on surface of leaves and affect cells. These surfactants do not damage the plant cell; this is important as Glyphosate cannot translocate effectively through damaged cells.
Another problem is that minerals in water and on plants ‘lock-up’ ordinary Glyphosate – this is caused by ion antagonism. Beneficial ions in Proliance Quattro lock onto calcium and magnesium before they lock onto Glyphosate. Proliance Quattro also has an enhanced active ingredient and contains a surfactant to hydrate the deposit and the cuticle. Glyphosate moves into the waxy cuticle aided by APG and the beneficial ions. Then System 4 Technology enables the Glyphosate to move through the plants transport system move effectively. Proliance Quattro is classified as Non-Hazard and Non-Irritant to the operator under Chip 3 and COSHH regulations
Product : Pistol (Systemic Weedkiller – 6 months residual)
Pistol is a barrier acting non-selective total herbicide for the control of a wide range of annual and perennial broad-leaved weeds and grasses on soft and gravel surfaces in amenity situations for 6 months. Pistol contains 40 g/l Diflufenican and 250 g/l Glyphosate.
Pistol has a wide spectrum of activity. Pistol L gives excellent control of a broad range of problematic species. Because of the synergistic effect of the two active ingredients, PISTOL® will give a faster effect than a straight Glyphosate application. With Glyphosate only, effects are normally seen on broad leaved perennials 14-21 days after application (depending on conditions); with PISTOL effects are normally seen 8-10 days after application. With straight Glyphosate formulations, weeds soon re-grow after treatment. PISTOL however, with its unique Diflufenican ‘barrier’ activity inhibits re-growth and ensures excellent levels of weed control for up to 9 months after treatment
Pistol has foliar absorbed translocated activity, combined with soil acting properties, providing pre-emergence weed control. The product is applied post emergence to control a wide range of annual and perennial broad-leaved weeds and grasses on porous surfaces on land not intended to bear vegetation. PISTOL is classified as Non-Hazard and Non-Irritant to the operator under Chip 3 and COSHH regulations. PISTOL is a water-based, non-solvent formulation.
Product : Casoron G (Granular total residual weedkiller)
A residual herbicide for use around roses, ornamental trees and shrubs, for total control and aquatic areas. The ready-for-use formulation eliminates the need for mixing and makes for easy application. Dichlobenil is the active ingredient in the Casoron G granule. Casoron G crystals are evenly distributed within the granules which are manufactured by compaction of a homogeneous powder. A single application will give season long control.
Casoron G has a very low degree of water solubility, resulting in little movement down the soil profile or sideways. It has a high vapour pressure and therefore a granule formulation reduces premature evaporation before entering the top 5-10cm layer of soil. It is important that this layer of soil is not disturbed because bringing untreated soil to the surface by hoeing or hand weeding can reduce its effectiveness. The herbicidal activity of Casoron G is due to its inhibition of cellulose bio-synthesis in plant meristems. This means that it disrupts the cell building tissue. It is important to apply early in the season to have maximum effect on germinating weed seeds and renewed growth of perennial weeds. When ‘Casoron’ G granules are applied to the soil, they disintegrate under the influence of moisture, and the active ingredient, Casoron G, is gradually released. Casoron G is only very slightly soluble in water and is readily adsorbed onto soil particles and organic matter.
Product : Finale (Non selective contact acting weedkiller)
FINALE is a non selective contact acting herbicide for use on grasses and broad-leaved weeds and for weed control around non-edible ornamental crops including trees and shrubs and in tree nurseries. Finale contains 120 g/litre (11.33% w/w) Glufosinate ammonium. Finale causes disruption of ammonium metabolism within the plant. There is an accumulation of ammonia, a powerful cellular poison. Simultaneously, photosynthesis is strongly inhibited. Finale causes discolouration of green parts, which then wither and die.
FINALE® is mixed with water and applied through a conventional knapsack sprayer or hydraulic boom sprayer (always ensure good function with the sprayers). Finale can be mixed with some Diuron products for a residual effect, always check both product labels for compatibility.
Product : Roundup Pro Biactive (Systemic Weedkiller – Non residual)
Roundup Pro Biactive herbicide is an aqueous solution containing either 360 g/l or 450 g/l Glyphosate. It is a herbicide which is taken up by foliage and translocated to root systems. Roundup Pro Biactive is recommended for control of Annual and Perennial grasses and Broad-leaved weeds in non-crop areas such as roadsides, paths, hard surfaces and along fences and walls. It is recommended for cleaning up weedy ground prior to planting or sowing, for total weed control on industrial sites and for aquatic weed control. Roundup Pro Biactive herbicide may also be used as a directed spray in ornamental plantings, and in forestry for site preparation and post planting treatments.
A period without rain of at least 6 hours, and preferably 24 hours, must follow application of Roundup Pro Biactive herbicide. Do not spray in windy conditions as drift onto desired plants or crops could severely damage or destroy them. Do not spray on to weeds suffering from drought, waterlogging, heat or frost, otherwise poor control may result.
New Roundup Pro Biactive 450 delivers the best value weed control by far. Faster, more complete and far more consistent weed control under a wider range of conditions is the attractive promise of this new generation Roundup herbicide. What's more, its high load formulation delivers much greater coverage per litre and has a completely hazard free 'clean' label for best overall amenity, forestry, aquatic and industrial value.
Product : Freeway (Systemic Non Selective residual Weedkiller)
Freeway is a persistent non-selective substituted urea herbicide for control of a wide range of annual and perennial broad-leaved weeds and grasses on railways, industrial sites, around farm buildings and other non-crop uses. At lower doses, applied before weed emergence, it can be used selectively around trees and shrubs, in tree and shrub nurseries, and in apple and pear orchards. Freeway can be applied at any time of year (except on hard surfaces - see compliance box). Best results are achieved when Freeway is applied from late winter to early spring although application to frozen ground should be avoided. Effects are usually slow to appear and may not become evident until the chemical has been carried to the rooting zone of the weed by adequate moisture. Freeway can be applied with hydraulic sprayers, knapsack sprayers or Controlled Droplet Application (CDA) equipment.
Product : Timbrel (Scrub and Brushwood Killer)
Timbrel is an effective selective Scrub and Brushwood herbicide. Timbrel contains Triclopyr acid equivalent).
Timbrel can be used on land not intended to bear vegetation such as motorway and railway embankments, roadsides, grassland of no agricultural interest and industrial areas for the control of woody weeds, brambles, nettles and perennial broad-leaved weeds.
Product : Spearhead (Selective Weedkiller for Amenity Grass)
Spearhead is a selective herbicide for the control of broad-leaved weeds in established turf. Spearhead contains 20 g/l Clopyralid, 15.9 g/l (1.45% w/w) Diflufenican and 300 g/l) MCPA.
For best results, the grass and weeds should be actively growing at the time of treatment. In most years, treatment during the early part of the season is recommended although spraying at any time between April and September will be effective, except during drought or waterlogged conditions.
Product : Re-Act (Selective Weedkiller for Amenity Grass)
Re-Act contains 256.25g MCPA, 237.5g/l Mecoprop-P and 31.25g/l Dicamba
Re-Act is selective herbicide for the control of many annual and perennial weeds in managed amenity turf and newly seeded grass. Application is best started in spring. Where difficult weeds exist, follow-up sprays will be necessary. Repeat application can be made 4-6 weeks after the first spray.
Scotts ‘Re-Act’ can be applied using standard spray equipment or pedestrian controlled sprayers. A spray indicator dye such as OPTIK can be added to help achieve accurate spraying of the target area.
Product: Praxys (Selective Weedkiller for Amenity Grassland, Lawn, Managed amenity turf)
